Vitamin D is a very important micronutrient that doesn’t get the attention it deserves.
Vitamin D plays a number of crucial roles within our body, including:
- Keeping our bones strong
- Keeping our immune system healthy
- Increasing the strength of our muscles
The best source of vitamin D is the sun. So if you live in a place that doesn’t get a lot of sun, or if you don’t get outside much, you might not be getting enough vitamin D.
A multi-pronged approach
To get enough vitamin D, choose foods that are higher in vitamin D (like oily fish), spend a little more time outside, and try a vitamin D supplement.
DNAFit Tip – Find out if your genes predispose you to require even more vitamin D than normal through a gene test. The Vitamin D Receptor gene (VDR) influences bone health. Different people have different versions of this gene, which can require them to have either the normal amount or a raised amount of vitamin D.
