Probably the only thing with a worse reputation than carbohydrates is fats. But are these based on facts or misguided notions? Let’s find out!
Fats are actually an important macronutrient in your diet and a major source of energy at 9 calories per gram. They also build cell membranes, protect the nerves and help the body absorb vital vitamins (A, D, E, and K) and minerals.
So why are they labelled the enemy?
Bad fats like trans fats and large amounts of saturated fat can worsen cholesterol levels while good fats like monounsaturated and polyunsaturated fats support healthy heart function.
Unfortunately all junk and processed food which are popular right now are loaded with bad fat! Another hitch is that some people tend to pile on weight when there is excess of fat in the diet while some others don’t.
So how do your genes respond to fat? Know about it from your gene tests.
Bonus tip: Most people forget that salad dressing are quite high in fat. Choose nonfat or low fat options.
